Full Description

A series of linear features and a single pit, all dated to the later Iron Age and early Roman periods. The fill of pit 1203 ontained pottery dated to 50 BC-AD 50, and the matority of pottery found in the ditch fills dated to between 50 BC and 160 AD.

"Vessels include: storage jars, cordoned jars, bead-rimmed jars, a jar with rilled decoration, a lid, and a bead-rimmed platter, a girth beaker, a carinated beaker and cordoned bowls."

"There were fragments of imported wares: a beaker rim of terra rubra fabric, a platter in South Gaulish samian ware, a glazed ware from Central Gaul, and a fragment of probable Dressel 1 or Dressel 2-4 wine amphora fabric from Campania."

A total of 21 fragments (132g) of fired clay/CBM was recovered from six contexts. Most were thought likely to derive from oven structures. One fragments was from an inbrex tile.

Metal finds included a Roman three-piece toilet set, 2+ nails and some hammerscale. A small assemblage of animal bone was found in Trench 46. (1)
