Findspot record TR 15 NE 1794 - Late 18th-19th century milestone, Kingsmead Coach Park, Canterbury

Summary

A large sandstone milestone with metal plates attached on both sides was found in the overburden, and probably dates to the 19th or possibly late 18th century. The probable original location for the retrieved stone is shown on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map of 1890. The milestone is likely to have been situated on the Canterbury – Barham Downs turnpike road, established 1791, which is now the New Dover Road.
