Full Description
The Infant School building was initially constructed in the early 1950s, with a later expansion phase in 1972 when the Junior School was added. The Infant School is a good example of a post-war prefabricated school buildings, built at a time when most schools had either been destroyed or heavily damaged during the war, and the need tobuild quickly and at a limited cost where the main concerns. Although some alteration has occurred, the majority of the internal structure has retained its original form and features.
The construction of the Junior School in the early 1970s was a testament to the rising popularity of Aylesham and the surround area, with expansion occurring in Aylesham. The style and appearance of the school is typical of the mid-late 20th century.
In 2016, a level 2 historic building record of the infant and junior school buildings located within Aylesham Primary School was produced to create a permanent archive of the school prior to planned demolition. (1)
