Monument record TR 34 SW 2229 - Early road surfaces within the outer bailey of Dover Castle, Dover, Kent

Summary

During an archaeological watching brief undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust on three small pits located within the outer bailey of Dover Castle a succession of chalk rubble and gritty loam deposits occupying the lower 0.60m of the stratified sequence appear to represent a succession of early road deposits, relating to the predecessor of the modern Knight’s Road. (location accurate to the nearest 1m based on available information)
