Full Description

Ground Floor commercial use, first and second floors residential. Façade is in a plastered brickwork painted white. Some (possibly original) features survive on the ground floor commercial frontage which is split into three bays. The outer two bays are glazed while the central contains a door. The fascia over and stall risers beneath are in a painted timber. The first floor is almost entirely glazed and divided into three bays (which do not align with those below) by timber pilasters/mullions. There is a single central window on the second floor which aligns with the central portion of the windows on the first floor. There are three string courses, one at the top of the first floor, another at the base and a third at the top of the second floor, beneath a parapet. The string at the base of the second floor also forms a sill to the second floor window. And there is a decorative plaster moulding beneath it (aligning with the window). The parapet above the second floor has stone/concrete coping. The whole building is at a strange angle and protrudes out slightly from the rest of the terrace into the street. The south façade of the building fronts on to the former site of market street, it is buttressed and plastered. There is a parapet on this side also and the gutter down pipe comes through a gap in the parapet near the south eastern corner of the building. This side is set at an acute angle to the eastern façade giving a slight acute angle to the interior of the building. The plasterwork and paintwork is quite weathered, discoloured and badly chipped in places.

The windows and door to the commercial ground floor have timber frames and glazing bars, all painted a bright purple/blue colour. The first floor is almost entirely glazed and split into 3 bays, all of which are divided into a tall tower part and small upper, by timber transoms. The upper parts are all awning windows while the lower parts look to be fixed shut. The central bay is divided into three, by two (painted white) timber mullions. The upper parts of the outer two windows are split into two, while the lower parts are a large single pain. The second floor window aligns with the central part of the first floor window, again it is split into a tall narrow lower part (which is casement) and small square upper part (which is fixed) by timber transoms. There are two timber mullions dividing the outer two pains from the central two panes. All of the frames are timber painted white, the paintwork is chipped in places. Some of the pains are cracked and broken. (1)
