Full Description
Long, narrow three storey structure in brick. The ground floor has a commercial use which consists of a large floor to ceiling window with a door to the left, and a large commercial sign above. The door and window surrounds and area over the party walls at ground floor level are in a painted (black) timber. There is a single, large and central window on the first and second floors, both have simple decorative plaster detailing on the surrounds. There is a large amount of untidy wiring between the ground and first floor, possibly associated with the security system, though some of it looks redundant. A parapet with concrete coping is located above the second-floor window. The brickwork is badly weathered stained and damaged in some areas, the area over the southern party wall is particularly bad and looks detached from the rest of the façade. There is vegetation growth across much of the façade, this is particularly bad at the parapet level. The north and south faces of the party walls, visible above the buildings on either side, are rendered, on the south side it rises above the level of the western façade, suggesting the building which once stood on this side was at a higher level.
Ground floor large commercial window, with door on the southern side, frames are a painted timber. There is a small (blocked) window over the transom above the door. The large window is blocked with commercial advertising/signage. The first-floor window is centrally placed within the façade and consists of two, two pane timber framed sashes separated by plastered mullions. The header above the window has a decorative cornice with dentils, this, the plastered surround and the timber frames are painted white. The second-floor window aligns with the first floor one, though is not as wide. It consists of a single, four pane, timber framed sash, the upper part of the sash is arched, and the surround is plastered and painted white. Some of the paintwork on the timber frames and plastered surrounds is badly chipped and there is some vegetation growth above the first floor window, otherwise the windows are in good condition.
Not clearly seen as it is located behind a parapet, it is double gabled (M Shaped) and in tile with brick stacks over both of the ridges on the northern party wall.
This appears to be one of the older buildings on this side of the street though is in a fair-poor condition and could do with improvement. Building in this plot shown on the second edition OS map, suggesting that is it was constructed by at least 1900. (1)
