Full Description

Forms a small commercial property, just a single storey in scale between a late C19th/early C20th church and an early C19th crescent. May have originally been part of a longer terrace, similar to those further towards the south east along the High Street. May have also originally have had upper floors. The shop front is almost entirely glazed and retains a number of original C19th features including its fluted pilasters and consoles over the party walls, timber window and door surrounds and the projecting commercial fascia and cornice at the top of the ground floor. The north eastern corner of the ground floor is at an angle to the rest of the building, this angle is consistent with the angle of the crescent (Victoria Crescent) located on its northern side. The window and door frames, cornice and commercial fascia are all in timber painted grey to match the commercial signage. There are small stall risers below the windows in brick also painted grey. The south eastern side of the building abuts St. Columbia’s Church and is faced with the same Corsham Stone. Overall the building is in a good condition and appears to be structurally sound.

Almost all of this façade is glazed and although the timber window and door frames are possibly original, it is likely that the large panes within them are later insertions. There are two doors, one is located centrally within the main façade, the other is located within the angled north western corner. Both are in timber painted grey and have two panels, the upper of each is glazed, both also have rectangular windows above the transoms, though that over the central doorway has been blocked. There is a large rectangular window on either side of the central doorway and a third slightly small window on the north eastern side of the northern doorway. All frames are painted grey and all openings are in a good condition. (1)
