Full Description

Part of a small crescent with its own road, separate, though adjoining, High Street. There is a small communal and walled grassed area set above the road level in front of the crescent. Group value 2-12 and all part of the same listing.

Forms part of an early C19 crescent, all in stuccoed brick with 3 storeys and basement. The building is associated with the modern single story funeral directors located on is northern side. The ground floor is raised slightly from the street level and the door is located on the northern side of the façade and is accessed via a set of two small steps, with a semi circular fan light above the transom over the door. There is a single window at the ground floor level, on the southern side of this door, and a further two windows, one per floor at the first and second floor levels. These are both located centrally within the façade and align across both floors. All of these windows have been blocked. There is a painted (black) string course at the base of the first floor window which stretches across the whole of the crescent and forms a continuous sill to all of the first floor windows, though the one apparent across this façade is at a slightly lower level than the others. The rendered façade is painted cream and there are some areas of slight damage/discolouration located at its upper levels. There is a parapet over the second floor with stone coping. Some wiring is attached to the façade at various locations, though this is mainly grouped over the string course at the base of the first floor. The north eastern (side) is visible above the single story building to the north. It is pebble dashed and painted cream though the far north western end is covered in slate. Overall the building appears to be structurally sound and in a good condition.

The door, which is raised up slightly from the street level and located on the northern side of the façade, is modern and in timber painted blue. There is a semi-circular fanlight above the transom over the door, this is likely a later replacement and consists of a single pane with a timber frame. There are three recesses within the façade, one on the southern side of the door, and one located centrally on both the first and second floor levels. These indicate the presence of former windows in these locations which have since been blocked. (1)
