Full Description

Single build with its south eastern neighbour, located on the south western side of High Street, together they have a symmetrical appearance (excluding the basement levels). The whole build is set back from the street level and there is a raised and separate pavement level in front of the building, accessed via a set of steps and with iron railings around. This raised pavement level is quite untidy with a lot of vegetation growth between the paving slabs. The façade is rendered and painted blue. Access to the upper ground floor is via a set of six steps on the north western side of the building, these steps have (possibly original) iron railings on either side. An original metal boot scarper is located next to the base of these steps. The door to the ground floor is located close to the south eastern party wall and looks to be original with a rectangular overlight above the transom over the door. The far north western end of the building, including the area surrounding the door, projects forward very slightly from the rest of the façade. There are two windows per floor on the upper ground floor and first floor levels, aligning across the floors. A string course is located between the ground and first floor levels. There is a slight cornice over the first floor over which is a parapet. There are two dormers at the roof level, both aligning with the windows on the floors below. The paintwork/render is chipped, cracked and discoloured in several locations, particularly at the parapet level. There is a single window at the basement level, located between the two windows on the floor above. This appears to be an original timber framed sash divided into multiple panes by timber glazing bars, though all have been blocked and painted (blue) and a large modern vent inserted into one of the upper panes. The south eastern (side) elevation is visible over the south eastern neighbour, which is not as tall. Some untidy wiring is attached to the façade, associated with an aerial located behind the parapet at the roof level and a security system located between the two ground floor windows. Overall, despite some areas of untidiness, particularly at the basement level and parapet, this building appears to be structurally sound and in a good condition.

The door at the ground floor level is located on the north western side of the façade and is in timber painted vibrant green, and appears to original with all of its original fixtures and fittings. The windows at the first and second floor level are later plastic replacements. The dormer windows are also later replacements (possibly metal) the paintwork on these is badly chipped and flaking away. There is a single window at the basement level, located between the two windows on the floor above. This appears to be an original timber framed sash divided into multiple panes by timber glazing bars, though all have been blocked and painted (blue) and a large modern vent inserted into one of the upper panes. Overall the openings are in a good condition with all window panes present and in tact.

The roof is mansard and in slate with two dormer windows located in the lower angle. It is set back slightly from the main façade and located behind a slight parapet. There is some moss growth in the joins between the slates. There is a brick axial stack located over the north western party wall. Overall it is in a good condition with no bowing or slipped slates.
