Full Description

Forms part of a C19th terrace on the south western side of High Street. This building is in a brown brick with a rendered basement level and is slightly advanced from its south eastern neighbour but flush with its north western. The paintwork on the render at the basement level is in a poor condition with much of it chipped and flaking away. The ground floor is at a higher level from the street and the front door, which is located on the north western side of the façade is accessed via a set of 6 stone steps, these are untidy with a lot of vegetation growth. There is an original iron railing located on the south eastern side of these steps, this is in a poor condition and badly rusted. The door is set within a recessed porch area, this porch has a decoratively moulded plaster surround and cornice, the door itself is original and there is a decorative and original semi-circular fanlight located above the transom over the door. There are four windows located on the main façade, one per floor aligning across all floors. All are timber framed sashes with rendered flat gauged brick arches over and small protruding sills. There are two blocked windows located centrally between this building and its north western neighbour, these also have the brick arches and sills. These were possibly inserted to create symmetry across the façade and it is unlikely that they were ever open. There is a rendered string course at the base of the first floor which forms a continuous sill to the first-floor window on this building as well as on the building to the north west. A moulded eaves level cornice is located at the top of the second floor with a parapet with stone coping above. Both this cornice and the parapet are badly weathered, worn and in a poor condition. There is also some staining and weathering to the brickwork across the façade. Overall the façade is untidy, and the remaining original features are in a poor condition, despite this the building appears to be structurally sound and in a fair condition.

The ground floor door is original and in a painted (red) timber with 7 panels, the upper four are glazed, two with stained glass and two with opaque glass. There is an original and decorative semi-circular window located above the transom over this door. There are four windows located across the main façade, all are timber framed sashes and are a mix of original and later C19th insertions. The basement level window is one of the later insertions and consists of a four pane sashes, the lower part of the ground floor window is also later and divided into two panes. All other windows appear to be original and divided into multiple small panes by timber glazing bars. The upper part of the ground floor window is divided into six and the first and second floors into 12 (three wide by four high). These timber frames are all painted white, some of this paint is dirty and chipped but overall all the windows are in a good condition with all panes present and intact.

The roof level was not clearly seen as it is located behind a parapet. It is slate and gabled with the gable ends over the south eastern and north western party walls. There is an axial brick stack located over the south eastern party wall. (1)
