Full Description

Forms part of a C19th terrace on the south western side of High Street. This building is in a brown brick which has been painted cream. The ground floor is at a higher level from the street and the front door, which is located on the south eastern side of the façade is accessed via a set of 6 stone steps. Both the door and these steps are set within a recessed porch area, this porch has a decoratively moulded plaster surround. The door itself has a decorative and original semi-circular fanlight located above the transom over the door, this has been blocked with paint. A further window is located on the north western side of the façade, this is lower than the main ground floor access and level with the street level. There are three windows located on the main façade one per floor on the first and second floor levels, aligning across the floors and a third located between the ground floor and basement level, centrally within the façade. All are timber framed sashes with flat gauged brick arches over and small protruding sills. The north western door also has a flat gauged brick arch over. There are two blocked windows located centrally between this building and its south eastern neighbour, these also have the brick arches and sills. These were possibly inserted to create symmetry across the façade and it is unlikely that they were ever open. There is a rendered string course at the base of the first floor which forms a continuous sill to the first-floor window on this building as well as on the building to the south east. A moulded eaves level cornice is located at the top of the second floor with a parapet with stone coping above. Both this cornice and the parapet are badly weathered, worn and in a poor condition. A modern gutter down pipe protrudes through a gap in the brickwork just beneath this cornice, this runs down to the basement level over the north western party wall and has been painted to match the brickwork. There is a quantity of untidy wiring located at several locations across the façade, likely associated with an aerial attached to the façade at the top of the first-floor level. the small paved area to the front of the building is separated from the street level by a low wall over which is an iron railing, this is likely a later though in keeping addition. Overall despite some untidiness and damage to some of the remaining original features, the building appears to be structurally sound and in a Good-fair condition.

Both of the doors are modern, the south eastern is in a treated timber while the north western is in a painted (black timber). There is an original and decorative semi-circular window located above the transom over the southern door, this has been blocked with paint. There are three windows located across the main façade, all are timber framed sashes divided into multiple (12) panes by timber glazing bars and are possibly original. These timber frames are all painted white, some of this paint is dirty and chipped but overall all the windows are in a good condition with all panes present and intact.

The roof level was not clearly seen as it is located behind a parapet. It is slate and gabled with the gable ends over the south eastern and north western party walls. There is an axial brick stack located over the North western party wall. (1)
