Full Description

It is located on a quiet street (Erith Place) that runs parallel to and is at a higher level than the busy London Road. There is a possibly original iron railing separating this raised street from London Road below. Is different from the other buildings within this terrace and is of a likely later date.

Forms the south eastern end of a terrace located on the south western side of London Road/Erith Place. Erith Place is a quiet road which runs parallel and is raised from London Road on its south western side. It differs from all of the buildings on the north western side of this one which are earlier, taller and narrower. This building is rendered and painted (cream) across both floors and the basement level, this render is scored at the ground floor level to give the impression of large block construction. The front door is located on the north western side of the façade, it is slightly raised from the street level and accessed via a set of three steps with original iron railings on their northern side. A small rectangular window is located above the transom over this door. There is a large three light canted bay window located just off centre at the ground floor level with rendered mullions. The basement level window, which is situated just above the pavement level, is located within the central portion of this bay. There are two first floor windows, these are both very tall stretching from the base of the first floor to near the eaves level. There is an original and decorative iron balcony shared between these two openings stretching across the whole of the first floor and with a metallic roof located just below the overhanging eaves of the main roof structure, providing shelter to the balcony. There is a single large, centrally placed flat roofed dormer at the roof level. An original gutter down pipe is located over the south eastern party wall with a decorative metallic hopper at its top. A couple of modern features are attached to the façade, including an aerial attached to the stucco at the top of the ground floor level near the south eastern corner of the building. Overall the building is well kept with a number of decorative original features and appears to be structurally sound and in a good condition.

The door appears to be original, it is in timber painted black with four rectangular panels, the upper two of which are glazed in an opaque glass. the openings within the ground floor bay and at the basement level have modern plastic frames. The two first floor windows appear to be original. They are both tall timber framed casements which open out onto a balcony stretching across the whole of the first floor. The flat roofed dormer is likely a later insertion though it is in an-keeping style with the age of the building, it is a timber framed sash divided into six rectangular panes by glazing bars. All the windows are in a good condition with all panes present and in tact.

The roof is in a curved sheet metal painted black. The eaves project over the first floor and there is a small metallic roof covering the balcony at the first floor level. There is a brick stack located centrally over the south eastern wall. This roof is an interesting and rare possibly original feature and adds to the aesthetic value of the building. It appears to be in a good condition though there is some rust visible on the roof over the balcony. (1)
