Full Description
Listed as a group 295-300 located on the north western side of London Road on a raised pavement level.
Forms part of a terrace of C19th buildings located on the south western side of London Road on a raised pavement which is separated from the busy London Road below by a possibly original iron railing. This building is slightly advanced from its south eastern neighbour but flush with its north western, it is in an exposed brown brick with a rendered and painted (cream) basement level and painted brick ground floor. The door is located on the north western side of the façade, immediately abutting the north western party wall; it is raised from the street level and accessed via a set of nine steps. A rendered and painted brick wall is located on the north western side of these steps separating the front garden area of this building from the front garden area of the building to the north west. A possibly original iron balustrade is located on the southern side of the steps. The door is round headed and set within a slight recess in the brickwork and there is a semi-circular window within this arch located above the transom over the door. A further door is located at the basement level, beneath the ground floor window with a window located immediately next to the south eastern jamb of the door. There is a single window on the ground, first and second floor levels, aligning across all floors. All have flat gauged brick arches above and small protruding sills. There is a parapet with a stone coping located over the second floor. Some wiring crosses the façade at several locations, this is associated with a large aerial attached to the brickwork at the second floor level. Overall the building appears to be structurally sound and is in a good condition.
The ground floor door, which is located on the north western side of the façade, is possibly original and in timber painted green with six moulded panels. It is round headed with a semi-circular window located above the transom over the door. This window is likely a later insertion and consists of a single pane with a timber frame. The basement level door was is also in timber green with a glazed upper half divided horizontally into two panes. This door and the window on its southern side are likely later insertions. All of the windows consist of timber framed sashes divided into four panes by timber glazing bars. The frames are all painted white, the first and second floor frames are in a fairly poor condition with the paintwork badly chipped and discoloured.
The roof level was not clearly seen as it is located behind a parapet but it appears to be hipped and in slate with a brick stack located over the south eastern party wall. (1)
