Lydd Sept 11 - The NORMA (Russian schooner), for Cherbourg, with deals, stranded half a mile W of the lighthouse at Dungeness, and will be a total wreck. (3)
"A heavy south-westerly gale previaled int he Channel last night". A large three masted schooner, the NORMA, a Russian vessel, was towed into the roads partially dismasted, and a complete wreck. She was water-logged and kept afloat only by her cargo of timber. Abo bound for Cherbourg. She lost her rudder in the gale and was driven ashore on the west side of Dungeness. Part of the crew were landed and vessel towed to Dover. (4)
