Full Description

Forms the south eastern end of a terrace of C19th buildings located on the south western side of London Road on a raised pavement which is separated from the busy London Road below by a possibly original iron railing. It is in a brown brick with a rendered and painted (white) basement level. The render is in a poor condition with The door is located on the south eastern side of the façade; it is raised from the street level and accessed via a set of 12 steps with a possibly original iron railing on their northern side. There is a rendered and painted brick wall on the northern side of these steps separating them from a narrow alley on the north western side of the building. This wall is in a poor condition with several severe cracks. The door is round headed and there is a semi-circular window located above the transom over the door. This window has been blocked with timber and a small modern light is attached to this timber. A further door is located at the basement level below the ground floor window. There is a single window on the ground, first and second floor levels, all align across the floors and are in the northern half of the façade. All have flat gauged brick arches above. There is a rendered string course located at the base of the first floor window, this forms a continuous sill to it. This string course is present at the same level on the neighbouring buildings to the north west. A parapet with stone coping is located over the second floor level, a fair amount of vegetation growth was visible attached to the guttering behind this parapet. Some untidy wiring crosses the façade at various locations associated with modern features attached to the brickwork, including a security system and light. Several large cracks were visible within the brickwork across this facade as well and some staining and bowing, suggesting that there are problems with the structural integrity of the building. A small part of the southern (side) elevation is visible from the street. This is in flint with brick dressings, further cracks are visible here and some vegetation growth. There is a brick wall in front of the property with a modern iron railing above, separating the small and untidy front garden area from the street level. Overall this building is in a poor condition with clear issues with the structural integrity.

The ground floor door, which is located on the south eastern side of the façade, is modern and in timber painted red with four rectangular panels and a semi-circular window at its top divided into four triangular panes, one of these panes is broken. It is round headed with a blocked semi-circular window located above the transom over the door. The basement door is also in timber painted red, it is wider than the ground floor door and has four large rectangular panels, the upper two of which are glazed. One of these glazed panels is broken and is partially blocked with timber. All windows are later C20th plastic replacements and are in a good condition, the doors are in a fairly poor condition.

The roof level was not seen from the street as it is located behind a parapet. Aerial photography suggests that it’s a double apex gable with the gable ends over the north western and south eastern party walls. A rendered brick stack is visible over the north western party wall. Some vegetation growth is visible within the guttering located directly behind the parapet.

Is of a similar date to many of the other buildings within this terrace though is in a slightly different style and is not listed. (1)
