Full Description

Large symmetrical red brick building with a rendered ground floor, built in the 1930s and is in a similar style and shares a number of architectural details with No. 4 Ladywell, situated to the south west. The ground floor is split between to commercial premises and has three wide openings. The outer two contain large floor to ceiling windows while the central contains the two doors, both of which are set within a recessed porch area. The render at the ground floor level is painted, the colour differs over the two commercial premises; it is green over the south western and cream over the north eastern. A decorative moulded plaster cornice runs along the top of the whole ground floor. The upper floors may be divided into three sections, aligning with the openings on the ground floor below. There are two windows per floor in the outer two sections, aligning across the floors and three on each floor in the central. The three first floor windows in the central section have a continuous iron balcony over their lower halves and have a semi circular brick arches above. All other windows have flat gauged brick arches over and central keystones. There is a rendered band at the top of the second floor level over which is a brick parapet with cement coping. There are small areas of recessed brickwork within this parapet the windows in the outer two sections, possibly suggesting the former site of openings here though, more likely, this is for decorative purposes. The central portion of the parapet rises above the two outer portions and there is some decorative detail located centrally on it. Two original metal gutter down pipes are located on either side of the building over the, north eastern and south western party walls. These run through a small gap at the parapet level down to the pavement level. Some modern features are attached to the façade including a satellite dish located at the top of the first floor over the south western party wall. Overall building is in a very good condition.

There are two large, floor to ceiling windows located at either end of the façade, these are likely original and are divided into an upper and lower part. The lower is divided into three tall panes while the upper is divided into multiple smaller panes. There are two doors, one each for the two commercial premises, these are both set within a recessed porch area and are in timber with a single large glazed panel. The return towards this recessed porch is also glazed. The window and door surrounds on the northern of the two shop fronts are painted black while those on the southern are red and all are in a good condition. The windows on the first and second floor level (there are 14 in total) are timber framed sashes painted white and divided into nine panes by timber glazing bars. All are in a good condition.

The rood was not clearly seen as is located behind a brick parapet. It is hipped and there is a brick stack visible from the street level on either side of the central portion of the building. A number of modern aerials are attached to the roof level and a tall flag pole. (1)
