Full Description

Replacement of an earlier bank in this location which was destroyed by WWII bombing. Forms the north eastern corner of Market Square large building set at a slight angle to the adjoining No. 24 on the southern side. Party wall between 24 and 25 runs straight within this building meaning that the interior of 24 is an acute angle, while this is square. Double height glazed frontage with access doors on both far sides of the building, abutting the party walls, and cash machines inserted centrally. Polished stone between the windows and doors, and between the tops of the ground floor windows and the first floor. Orange/buff brick laid in stretcher bond at 1st floor level. Pebble flint laid in even courses below the ground floor windows and below the cash machines to about ¼ ground floor height.

Ground floor windows start at about ¼ ground floor height and extend to near the full height of this double height ground floor. Glazing over the both of the doors also extends above to the top of the first floor. 13 tall narrow glazed sections with timber jambs between and metal horizontal strips between the panes. The central glazed area above the cash machines consists of three sets of three rectangular panes while the five on either side of the cash points are four panes each. There are four large panes above both of the doors (again with the timber jambs and metal horizontal strips) and narrow panes one either side of these (four high) starting at about ¼ ground floor height. There are five equally spaced rectangular windows at the first floor level with stone surrounds and either metal or painted timber casemate frames. Stone door surrounds with semi circular arch over the top. Carved decorative stone detailing over both of the doors. Large timber doors both give access to the ground floor, presumably access to the upper floors is from within the building.

Roof level Not seen, located behind slight brick parapet with concrete coping, parapet at the same level at No. 24 and at a lower level to 26 on the other side. (1)
