Full Description

Forms part of a late C19th/early C20th terrace on the north eastern side of London Road. The ground floor has been heavily inserted for a modern commercial use though a few of the original shop front details have been retained including: consoles over the party walls and the protruding cornice at the top of the ground floor. There is a single door located in the southern half of the façade, with a large window on its northern side and a narrow window on its southern. There is a small rectangular window above the transom over the door. The area below the windows is tiled with modern light brown tiles and there is a large commercial fascia above the windows and door. The upper stories are in an exposed red brick with stone detailing. There is a single, large, centrally placed, bowed window at the first floor level, the base of which rests on the protruding cornice over the ground floor. There is detailing at the cornice level of this window and a flat metallic roof over. There are two windows at the second floor level both with small protruding stone sills. There is a stone band immediately below the eaves at the top of the second floor, with a stone string course at the bottom, both the string course and the stone band are slightly stained and weathered. The tops of the second floor windows rest immediately below this string course. There are two further stone bands crossing this façade; one at the base of the second floor, aligning with the sills of the second floor windows and another aligning with the top of the first floor window. Again, these are slightly weathered and worn. A gutter down pipe runs from the top of the second floor down to the pavement level over the north western party wall. The brickwork surrounding this down pipe is badly stained, suggesting that it leaks or has leaked in the past. A quantity of untidy wiring is located at various locations on the facade, possibly associated with numerous aerials attached to the stack at the roof level, though some of which looks redundant. Overall, despite some untidiness and weathering to the architectural details, the building appears to be structurally sound and in a fairly good condition.

The building has a single door at the ground floor level, located on the south eastern side of the façade. It is modern and in timber painted green with a single large glazed pane. There is a small rectangular window above the transom over this door and a window on either side of it. The window on the northern side is large while the southern is narrow. All have timber frames painted either light green or cream. Both are modern and in timber, the first is painted black and the second is red and has a large single glazed panel. There is a single large bowed window at the first-floor level and two small windows at the second floor level. All are later plastic insertions and in a good condition.

The roof is gabled and in slate with the gable ends over the north western and south eastern party walls.. A brick stack is located over the north western party wall with multiple large aerials attached to it. Metallic flashing is located at the base of the roof where its meets the stone cornice below. There is some slight bowing in the roof structure suggesting that there are some possible problems with its structural integrity. (1)
