Full Description
Forms the north western end of a small terrace on the north eastern side of London Road and is in a similar style to its south eastern neighbour. The ground floor is level with the street and retains a number of possibly original C19th details including; the fluted pilaster and consoles toped with highly decorative finials over the party walls, the timber window and door surrounds, corner posts and stall risers below, the protruding commercial facia and the moulded cornice at its top. The door is on the north western side of the façade within a recessed porch area. The floor of this porch has original decorative tiles and there is a square window above this transom over the door. The return on the south eastern side of this porch is glazed and there is a large window, level with the street, occupying the rest of the facade. Two small vents are located at the base of the stall risers below the window possibly suggesting the presence of a basement below the building. The upper floors are set back from the street and the front of the ground floor, at the time of inspection they were covered with scaffolding and so were not clearly seen. They are in an exposed brick with a rendered dropped cornice and parapet at the top of the second floor. There is a large three light canted bay window with a rendered surround and mullions located centrally within the façade at the first floor level. The base of this rests in the projecting lower floor and it has a hipped slate roof. There are two windows at the second floors level, both have decorative rusticated plaster surrounds and a protruding continuous sill. The northern (side) elevation is rendered and painted (cream) and there are no openings. Overall building is in a good condition and appears to be structurally sound.
The door is possibly original and in a painted timber is located within a recessed porch on the north western side of the façade has four panels, the upper two of which are glazed. There is a square window above the transom over this door. There is a narrow rectangular single pane in the angled return towards the door and a large window facing the street on the south eastern side of the porch. This is a two pane (divided horizontally) sash. The frames to all the ground floor openings are in timber painted white. The bay window at the first floor level is divided into three, possibly original timber sashes, the central is wider than the outer and is divided into four panes by timber glazing bars, while the outer consists of two large panes. The two first floor windows are also possibly original four pane timber sashes. All of the frames are painted white. All windows and doors are in a good condition with all panes present and in tact.
The roof level was not clearly seen as it is located behind a parapet. Part of it is, however, visible from the side elevation and from here it could be seen that it is a double apex gable in slate with the gable ends over the north western and south eastern party walls. There are two brick stacks located at each of the apexes. Overall the roof appears to be in a good condition. (1)
