Full Description

"The barn has been entirely rebuilt externally and there is now nothing, beyond the steep pitch of its corrugated tin roof, to suggest it might contain earlier fabric... Once inside the rather unattractive breeze block exterior however, the remains of an aisled timber-framed structure of probable sixteenth-century date can be seen."

"The barn is aligned east-west, its main range now measuring approximately 18.10m in length by 9.16m in width... Two bays of sixteenth-century fabric now survive, albeit incomplete, within the interior of the structure… A third bay was once present, but this has been rebuilt. A twentieth-century extension now projects from the south side of the barn."

Two sixteenth-century cross-frames remain. "These are typically built for a barn of this period and locality and are reasonably complete. Each cross-frame consists of two substantial jowled arcade-posts. These support steeply cambered tie-beams of fairly large cross section.Curved arch-braces rise from the posts to meet the undersides of these tie-beams. Aisle-shores typically once descended from the rear of the each post into the aisles, but only two of these survive; both now stop at the aisle-ties, but once continued to ground level. The post-plates and footings, upon which the arcade-posts once sat, and into which the aisle-shores were tenoned, have been removed, the posts now supported by concrete pads." (1)

It is likely that the barn has since been converted for domestic use.
