Monument record TQ 67 SW 1506 - Room 10563 in the Ebbsfleet Roman Villa Bath-House
Summary
Room 10563 in the Roman Villa Bath-House was identified during excavations in advance of the CTRL HS1. This room was created when room 10697 was expanded. This expansion increased the room size to measure 3.50 m by 3.70 m.(1). The flint ledge or wall in the centre of the room was also extended into an L-shape. The mortar and hypocaust, absent in Room 10697, indicate a change of function to a hot room, requiring the room to be expanded. Painted wall plaster found within room 10563 suggests that the room was decorated.
