Single-ditched, ring ditch located from air photographs.

Cropmark of probable airfield idenfication mark at Manston Airport. Visible on 1946 aerial photographs. C. 145m in diameter with an inner circle of c. 50m diameter that contained the name of the airport. Probably dating to the interwar years (1920s and 1930S).

Another monument record for a single-ditched ring ditch is located within the area of this cropmark (TR 36 NW 245), and may have been based on this cropmark or another (formerly recorded as MKE15682/TR 26 NW 245). (1)

RAF Manston's landing circle of 20th century date was visible in RAF/HLA/564 V 6029 01-JUN-1942. It was formed of two concentric circles positioned on the grass airfield of the First World War station. Although visible in this imagery dating to 1942, the landing circle was in poor condition and presumably not being maintained (an arrangement of anti-landing obstacles had been constructed over it).

Parts of the landing circle were visible as cropmarks in Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 05-MAY-2018. This feature was mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (2-3)
