Neptune was a British Brig, Master: Franks Date of Loss Qualifier: R Additional sources cited in United Kingdom Shipwreck Index. Lloyds List No.2285, 02.12.1757 (1)
Lloyd's list (no 2286 6th of December 1757) notes: 'The Neptune Brig of Hull, Captain Franks, sailing from Britol to Hamburg with Rice, Tobacco, Ginger, Sugar was chased inot Dover Pier by a French Privateer where it struck on the bar, and got behind the North Head, and it is feared it will be lost though the cargo will be saved'.
