Barquentine-rigged steam yacht, built at Norfolk in 1879. Sank following collision with the KINGSWELL. 12-JUL-1955 Clear at 54ft in a general depth 103ft, length 300ft, height 45ft direction 350-170deg position 50 48 31N 000 53 03E, wreck silted. 26-MAR-1975 Fixed position 50 49 04N 000 53 05E general depth of seabed 32m. Depth of scour 1.0 metres sea bed flat length of 150 feet 20-MAY-1976 Correct position 50 48 33.19N, 000 53 02.83E. 17-DEC-1979 Wreck lies on even keel with bows SE. Iron hull, screw driven, but with at least two steel masts rigged for sail, length 300ft and standing 30-40ft above seabed, general depth 130ft, hard sand/gravel. Hull has a 10ft break 100ft from bow. Fork has been found bearing name ARGONAUT. 24-AUG-1981 Owned by messrs Nightingale and O'Reilly (telecon). 18-FEB-1983 Positively identified from embossed cutlery and crockery (H Kennard) 08-JUL-1983 Dispersal operations being conducted by salvage vessel MOUNT EDEN (Spithead Marine Salvage Co).
