Full Description

When she struck a mine, a violent explosion took place under the stern of the vessel at 8.35am., shattering the ship's boats which were already swung out, her crew having no alternative but to jump overboard. The master and three crewmen were picked up by a patrol vessel and a small boat from a passing barge. Two of the crew were not seen again following the explosion. The survivors were put on board the SS. SWALLOW and landed at Folkestone. The ship's confidential papers and W/T. code books went down with the ship.
