Full Description

At 2pm. when ENE. of the North Goodwin lightship, the 1st. engineer rushed on deck from the engine room to advise the master that the bottom of the ship was giving way, and that part of her cargo had already fallen through. The crew managed to snatch up some belongings and lower a boat before the vessel sank, fortunately out of the track of shipping. In thick fog and heavy rain there was no point in displaying distress signals, so they took for direction the sound of the foghorn of the North Goodwin lightship, rowing in that direction, but the strong tide exhausted them by the time they reached it. The crew of the lightship therefore had to float down a buoy on a line, by which means the survivors were hauled on board one at a time. The lightship then radioded the Ramsgate lifeboat which went out to take off the men. Date of Loss Qualifier: A Additional sources cited in United Kingdom Shipwreck Index.
