The former corn mill, known as Furnace Mill, in Cowden is shown on the tithe map of the 1840s, the 1862-75, 1897-1900, 1907-23, 1929-52 and current O/S maps. The Census Returns of both 1881 and 1891 also record that the occupants of the building were millers by trade. The building would appear to have been converted to residential use now but no further information is available.
