During the monitoring of mains service test pits associated with a proposed new sewer scheme throughout the town of New Romney, the remains of a building with a possible medieval date were recorded on George Lane. Within the test pit (TP34) was a ragstone dwarf wall, aligned parallel to the modern roadside kerb. Abutting one side of the wall was an occupational deposit containing oyster shell, animal and fish bones, carbon, slate, peg tile fragments and small pieces of medieval type mortar, this deposit sealed a clay floor.
