Full Description

A geophysical assessment of ‘St Martins Field’, a green situated north behind New Romney High Street, which was undertaken in 2010 a large rectangular high resistance feature was recorded. This probably represents hard standing, yard or sub-foundation of a former unknown structure that measures about 20m north-south and 39m east-west. A large pit or pond truncates the feature mid-way along the northern aspect, which itself is surrounded by several small areas of shallow pitting. It is possible that the pit may represent a monastic building possibly associated with the Church of St Martin. (1)
