During a watching brief undertaken within the churchyard of St Nicholas Church in New Romney for the excavation of drainage trenches and soakaway pits, a series of in tact burials were uncovered. Because of the unstable nature of the soakaways sections the burials were not fully recorded. Instead large amounts of skeletal material were retrieved from the spoil heaps for sympathetic re burial. Within soakaway 1 the remains of at least nine adult skeletons were retrieved while soakaway 2 produced the remains of seven adults. (1)
