Full Description
During construction of a conservatory for the present 17th century house, a ragstone wall was dicovered and investigated. The wall has been dated to c. AD 1300, and is probably part of the original medieval moated manor. More of the earlier building may survive underneath the later house. The content of three demolition layers suggest the medieval building went out of use c.1600 AD, and the current house was constructed shortly afterwards. A small assemblage of medieval and post-medieval pottery was retrieved, and some roof tile, animal bone and oyster shell from the demolition layers. (1)
