Full Description

A watching brief carried out in 2006 found evidence of the northern edge of St Mary Bredin churchyard. This consisted of a brick wall. Five inhumation burials were also identified at the site, alongside two charnel pits containing large quantities of disarticulated human remains. One of the charnel pits is considered to have potentially been used to dispose of skeletal remains disturbed during the rebuild of the church at the site. The burials comprised a juvenile buried in a supine position, a supine adult male, and two burials of undetermined age/sex, one of which was supine.
Wall remains and other features associated with the church and dating to the post-medieval period were also excavated at the site. (1)
