Monument record TR 15 NW 2425 - Roman occupation evidence, 19 Wincheap

Summary

An archaeological evaluation carried out in 2007 found evidence of Roman occupation in the form of a metalled surface that probably represents the course of the Roman road. Fragments of human skull were also found that may indicate the presence of burials on site or close by. Subsequent excavation confirmed the presence of Roman quarry pits, gravel surfaces and timber structures.
