Monument record TR 15 NE 1843 - Cavalry, infantry and artillery barracks, Sturry Road, Canterbury

Summary

During the Napoleonic Wars and afterwards a series of barracks were built along what is now Sturry Road, Canterbury. A cavalry barracks had been built by 1794, an infantry barracks by 1798 and artillery barracks a few years later. The quarters were accompanied by a range of buildings including canteens, stables, gymnasia, firing range, forge, cemetery and hospital. The main buildings were demolished in the mid 20th century although the Territorial Army barracks and some minor features survive. Record neecs enhancement
