Full Description

Excavation in 2000-2002 found the fragmentary remains of a building with an early Roman date though there is also some evidence to suggest that activity may have continued into the mid-Roman period. It was represented by parts of two wall foundations, each approximately 0.5 m wide and of crushed chalk, which formed the north corner of a building, perhaps with a doorway in the north-east wall. The size of this building is unknown and no internal features survived, but it appears that it was oriented north-west to south-east. Its function also remains unclear, but there is nothing which indicates that it was anything other than domestic. A number of features including pits, a grave, gullies and a possibe well were discovered and are likley associated with this building.(1)
