Full Description
Excavation in 2000-2002 carried out as part of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link found a group of neonate burials associated with the southern of two early Roman features overlooking the springs at the head of the Ebbsfleet. The five neonatal burials were found in four graves which lay close together, possibly forming a shallow arc. All of the graves were shallow, with two being nothing more than irregular scoops, not dissimilar to some of the possible post-holes. Redeposited neonatal bone was also recovered from a similar, shallow feature outside this group and immediately to the north of a gully. (1)
