Summary
Excavation in 2000-2002 found two small gravel quarries . They were dug close to the edge and within the bed of the river, both were approximately 1 m deep. It seems likley that they were dug to extract gravel for use in the mid Roman sanctuary area. (location accurate to the nearest 1m based on available information)

Full Description
Excavation in 2000-2002 found two small gravel quarries . They were dug close to the edge and within the bed of the river, both were approximately 1 m deep, and cut through the earlier gravel consolidation deposits. It is likley that they were dug to extract gravel for use in the sanctuary area, perhaps as part of the consolidation deposits or for metalled surfaces. (1)
