Monument record TQ 67 SW 1620 - Ritual shaft within Roman sanctuary complex, Springhead, Northfleet
Summary
Excavation in 2000-2002 carried out as part of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link found a 4.5m deep shaft. It contained a structures sequence of deposits and it seems certain that these various deposits should be attributed to some form of ritual activity associated with the use of the Sanctuary complex. Is position at the entrance to the area around the Sanctuary complex is also significant. (location accurate to the nearest 1m based on available information)
