Excavations in advance of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link in 2002-3 identified a number of Romano-British property boundaries west of the Ebbsfleet. A series of fence lines were identified within property 4, these appear to have separated the property from both the road and the adjacent properties. On the south western side of property 4 was an L-shaped arrangement of five substantial post-holes probably marking a fence, and a further cluster of intercutting post-holes perhaps part of a gate arrangement. These lay on the street frontage and may have separated the property and provided access from the road. Another fence line comprising at least two phases of post-holes lay in the south-east corner of the property, with three larger post-holes to the north representing part of an adjacent, riverside structure of uncertain form.
