Full Description
27 flint artefacts were recovered from a gravel layer in test pit 29. These included two small pointed handaxes and the broken butt of a very large handaxe. The remainder were debitage with a few pieces suggesting handaxe manufacture, though the majority were undiagnostic. A further 25 atrefacts were recovered from test pit 30, again within the gravel. These included two well made pointed handaxes with a neatly knapped rounded butt, both in fresh condition and the broken butt of a small handaxe. There was also one core, the rest were debitage with a few pieces again suggesting manufacture. All of the artefacts were in a moderately rolled condition reflecting transport in the fluvial gravels but a few were less rolled suggesting that they had not travelled far. (1)
