Full Description
During mitigation work and sieving of the Pleistocene gravels ahead of development at Swanscombe Community School (Phase 2), an assemblage of lithic artefacts with a Palaeolithic date were recovered. The assemblage was substantial, 306 flint artefacts were recovered in total, this included 29 hand axes, six cores, a flint percussor and numerous waste flakes, probably mostly from handaxe manufacture although some may have been from core reduction.
