Monument record TQ 54 NW 249 - Second World War Type 24 pillbox behind a property called Sandholes

Summary

Brick shuttered Type 24, 7 embrasures located alongside a small wood and pond behind a property called Sandholes between Penshurst and Chiddingstone. The pillbox sits on rising ground above the river valley looking down onto the small road bridge that crosses the River Eden. It forms part of the GHQ line B leading to Penshurst. Field of fire is to the south and covers a shell proof pillbox on the river bank (S0000921). In good condition, although some of the front brickwork has fallen away.
