A Roman copper alloy brooch was uncovered during geoarchaeological investigations undertaken on land the the south of Ebbsfleet Green, Swanscombe. Full Description

A Roman copper alloy brooch was uncovered during geoarchaeological investigations undertaken on land the the south of Ebbsfleet Green, Swanscombe. It was recovered from within test pit 46 at a depth of 2.6m. The brooch is a Nauheim derivative, the distinctive form of the bow margins placing it within the Lowbury group which has a core distribution around Hampshire/ Berkshire/ Oxfordshire, and another large group centred on Chichester. The type has a pre- conquest to early post conquest date range up to c.80/100AD. (1)
