Full Description
Archaeological work in 2011/2012 at Claxfield Farm found an early-middle Bronze Age ring-ditch and a middle Bronze Age cremation burial in a bucket urn. The ring ditch had a diameter of c. 7.6 m and a ditch 1.4m wide. The fill of the ditch contained pottery, flint flakes and carbonized grain. Cut into the side of the ditch was a single middle Bronze Age cremation burial. The burial was in a thick walled urn with Deverel Rimbury type parallels. The urn contained cremated bone and a single loomweight.
About 3.5 m south of the ring-ditch was a fire pit with stakeholes. Further south still were another 8 fire pits that seemed to be in an arc around a probable pond c. 7m across.(1)
