Full Description
A watching brief carried out during floodlight cabling works south of Canterbury Cathedral found evidence of a a medieval wall close to the wall that divided the monks from lay cemetery. This suggests significant unknown remains existed in this area.
The remains were 12.8m south of St Gabriel's chapel and comprised a length of wall running SSW-NEE. It was built of flint and ragstone and was faced on both sides. It was 0.6m wide and ran for 1.7m. It was at right angles to the wall that divided the two parts of the cemetery. It may therefore represent a structure attached to its western side. (1)
