Monument record TQ 67 SW 1783 - Narrow guage industrial railway, Bevan's Pit, Swanscombe

Summary

An industrial railway was built to service the Bevan cement works from c. 1852 onwards. The network was of an unsual 2ft 8in guage, perhaps because the locomotives came from Neath in south Wales where 2ft 8in was a common guage. By the 1920s the network was replaced with a standard guage.
