Monument record TR 15 NW 2573 - Former site of Kent County Pavilion, 1877
Summary
The Kent County Pavilion was built in 1877 to provide a roller skating pavilion. Roller skating had become popular in the late 18th century and by the later 19th century rinks were becoming common. The Pavilion ran east-west along the Rhodaus Town frontage and included a range of facilities. The ground at the rear was laid out with paths, tennis courts, a bowling green, and an outdoor skating rink. It was estimated the Pavilion could hold 2,000 people. By 1909 it had closed and was demolished in parts thereafter, the last part being demolished in the late 1980s.
