Full Description
The site and remains of the Watch House, Engine and Boiler House 'for machinery associated with the possible Glazing House to the northwest'. The building was in existance by 1877, and had possibly been there since 1790. (1)
Watch house, engine and boiler house at the Marsh Gunpowder Works, constructed by 1920 and shown on a plan of the works by Nobels Explosives Co. Ltd. in 1920 as building 60 and 61. A survey as part of the RCHME Faversham's Explosives Industry Project in 1991, found the building to be extant (Building 10 - RCHME ground photography negative reference 164/K/18-19 and 164/K/26). Visible features of the structure comprisd two well heads represented by cast iron pipes. A brick vaulted tunnel led beneath an earthen mound to the glazing house (TR 06 SW 218). The entrance to the tunnel was protected by a free standing brick wall. Set into the floor of the tunnel along the north side was a row of cast iron plates. These may have originally supported a drive shaft. (1-2)
