`During a most violent gale of wind at about SSW late last night, and early this morning...' (1)

`Accidents occasioned by the gale on Monday night and Tuesday morning.

The SALLY, Patterson, from London to Madeira, went on shore on the White Dyke, near Ramsgate, and afterwards drove to sea on her broadside. Only one passenger and two boys saved.' (2)

Wind conditions at Deal on the 11th SSW (1); and on the 12th `SSW, blows hard.' (2)
