Full Description
in situ early Neolithic flint work on a preserved land surface, 1606 worked flints and 450 un worked burnt flints were uncovered. The assemblage results from the knapping of local flintnodules for flakes and blades rather than specialised blanks or core tools. The scatters are not however, solely the product of knapping events. Their distribution reflects the use and abandonment of a large number of unretouched flakes as defacto refuse. The activities focussed on cutting and whittling actions and notably involve the manufacture and/or use of few retouched tools. The activities also produced numerous burnt flints. This and scatters like this have been interpreted as relatively short lived activity areas related to specific tasks, although the precise nature of the activity is not clear. (1)
